Capabilities · Water & wastewater
Water and wastewater treatment, design through operator training.
Package treatment plants, tertiary filtration, chlorine contact and controls, permitted and commissioned for strict discharge limits.

What we do
For the National Park Service, SIS replaced two 1970s-era plants at Buffalo Point on the Buffalo National River with extended-aeration package plants of 15,000 and 20,000 gallons per day, each followed by multi-media tertiary filtration.
The new plants treat to 10 mg/L BOD5 and 15 mg/L TSS or better. Design followed the 10 States Standards, and SIS obtained construction and discharge approval from the State of Arkansas.

Package treatment plants for remote and federal sites
Parks, installations and small communities often rely on package wastewater treatment plants: factory-built activated sludge systems sized for flows from a few thousand to tens of thousands of gallons per day. When older plants cannot meet current discharge limits, replacing them involves design, state permitting, demolition, new equipment and operator training, often on a remote site with no room for schedule slip.
At Buffalo Point, SIS replaced two 1970s plants with extended-aeration package plants of 15,000 and 20,000 gallons per day, each followed by multi-media tertiary filtration to meet 10 mg/L BOD5 and 15 mg/L TSS. Design followed the 10 States Standards, Recommended Standards for Wastewater Facilities.
How we deliver it
How we deliver a treatment plant replacement
- Step 1
Design to the permit
Process design starts from the discharge limits the state will enforce, then sizes equipment, filtration and disinfection to meet them.
- Step 2
Obtain approvals
We prepare and submit the construction and discharge approvals the state requires before construction starts.
- Step 3
Build while operating
Demolition and construction are sequenced so the site keeps treating wastewater, reusing existing slabs and structures where sound.
- Step 4
Commission and train
Plants are commissioned against their design parameters, and operators are trained on the new equipment before turnover.

Frequently asked questions
Does SIS design wastewater treatment plants?
SIS delivers wastewater plants as design-build with our design team, as we did for the National Park Service at Buffalo Point, Arkansas.
What discharge limits have your plants met?
The Buffalo Point plants were designed to reduce effluent to 10 mg/L BOD5 or less and 15 mg/L TSS or less.
What is an extended-aeration package plant?
An extended-aeration plant is an activated sludge process with a long aeration time, delivered as a factory-built package. It is common for parks, installations and small communities because it is robust and relatively simple to operate.
Does SIS train plant operators?
Yes. Operator training and O&M manuals are part of our turnover, as at Buffalo Point, where the new plants operated under stricter limits than the old ones.
Have a project or solicitation in this scope?
Send us the details and our BD team will respond within one business day.
