Project overview
Pool 22 is the stretch of the Upper Mississippi River between Lock and Dam 21 at Quincy, Illinois and Lock and Dam 22 near Saverton, Missouri. Like every pool in the navigation system, it depends on riprap to protect riverbanks, levees and structures from erosion and scour, and the Corps replenishes stone as currents and floods wear it away.
The Rock Island District bought about 80,000 tons of riprap for Pool 22 under a service-disabled veteran-owned small business set-aside and awarded the contract to SIS in July 2021. Supplying stone at that scale is a procurement and logistics job: finding quarry capacity that meets the Corps' gradation and quality requirements, then delivering steadily to the river.
Scope of work
- About 80,000 tons of riprap supplied to Corps specifications
- Quarry sourcing for the required stone gradation and quality
- Material approval before delivery
